Check for Food Recalls at the USDA Source

Have this webpage from the USDA saved on your browser to quickly check if a new food product recall has been generated for your region in the United States by the USDA. Click on the food recall and then select "food labels" to view a PDF file containing pictures of the recalled food's product labeling. If the recall is for a food ingredient that is used in many different food products with varying brands, a picture of the food label will be posted in the PDF for each brand and each food product within the brand that is affected under the USDA recall. Occasionally, imported food products are recalled because the secondary inspection that was scheduled to take place at the primary point of entry into the United States for imported products failed to take place. The USDA does not state why an inspection of the food product did not occur. The main post for the USDA recall will state if the recall is ACTIVE or CLOSED. The image above is an example of a CLOSED USDA recall from 2025. Stay ahead of the curve and be the first to notify your patients in Medical Nutrition Therapy about food recalls that affect your region!

USDA recalls have three classifications:
Class I - High or Medium Risk
There is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death
Class II - Low Risk
There is a remote probability of adverse health consequences from the use of the product
Class III - Marginal Risk
The use of the product will not cause adverse health consequences or the risk is negligible
