The Joint Commission Standards of Practice Question Form for Active Healthcare Professionals - 7 Step Guide

As a newly credentialled RDN, I am about to start a new position at an Outpatient Medical Clinic where I will not have a direct supervisor in my field of expertise. If you are another Healthcare Provider who is not being regulated by a supervisor, then you will want to get yourself acquainted with The Joint Commission's official website so that you can research different current active TJC standards by category or submit a question form directly to TJC to receive a help ticket about a particular policy that you might be evaluated on during a TJC audit.

This Post is meant to be an official guide on how to receive a help ticket from TJC's Standards Interpretation Group (SIG).

Below is TJC's Standard FAQs electronic policy library sorted by category

Free 7 Step SIG Guide

to receive a help ticket from TJC you will need to :

Step 1 : Open TJC's Standard FAQs electronic library on your web browser

You should see this webpage appear in your browser

Step 2 : Once on TJC's electronic library for Standard FAQs, scroll down to the bottom of the page until you see "Can't Find What Your Looking For?" & the blue/white "ask a standards interpretation question" button

This is what you're looking for at the bottom of the page

Step 3 : Click the "Ask a Standards Interpretation question" button

Step 4 : After clicking the blue/white button your web browser should open up the SIG Online Submission Form created by TJC in a new tab on your web browser.

Evaluate the form and make sure that the picture below matches the form you're seeing on your web browser

Step 5 : Fill out the SIG Online Submission Form; If you're healthcare facility is TJC accredited but you do not see it in the drop down boxes then submit the form stating that your healthcare organization is not Joint Commission accredited and write out in the question submission box the healthcare facility that you work at and explain that you had issues finding this facility on the form. Technical errors do occur in our modern society. This submission form limits your question to 4,000 characters, which is very generous.

Step 6 : After Filling out the SIG Online Submission Form, you should see a Submit Question button on the bottom of the online form. Click the Submit Question button to send your form to TJC.

The button should look like this at the bottom of the form (reference the picture below)

Step 7 : After clicking the submission button you will be generated a help ticket identifier and you will receive an email receipt with instructions on what to do next if nobody reaches you within 5 - 10 business days. Save this information on your computer by taking a screenshot!

Remember not to submit any Patient Identifiers to be HIPAA Compliant!
