Healthcare Professionals need more Dietetic Resources at their fingertips for Diverticulosis & Diverticulitis Patient Education. As Executive Director of The Dietetic Wellness Project, I have found a Diverticulosis / Diverticulitis Patient Handout created by the Stanford Hospital & Clinics Digestive Health Center Nutrition Services Department. This handout has been published by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and has organized information very effectively in a table so that it is easier to read.
All Patient Handouts that utilize tables to organize words instead of using a classic sentence / paragraph format are easier to read and help patients more quickly identify information that's most relevant to them in their own personal journey with food / nutrition.
On the version published here on The Dietetic Wellness Project's Clinical Blog, I have also added a section that explains how to alter your fiber intake based on the "Foods to Eat" Collum in the table when the patient is experiencing a Diverticulitis flare-up. An original handout in Spanish was not published by Stanford; as Executive Director, I created a new table containing the Spanish Translation using Google Docs.
Both PDFs of the Patient Handout have the QR Code for The Dietetic Wellness Project's official website Dietetic Wellness and the sheet informs the patient that they can find the handout digitized for free on this website.
Different Uses in Varying Healthcare Settings
These PDFs can also be used by Inpatient RDNs / RDs during Inpatient Nutrition Education Consulting Sessions and/or the handout can be listed as a tool that can be handed to the patient as part of a Discharge Planning Program before a patient experiencing a Diverticulitis flare-up is discharged from the hospital.
Telehealth RDNs / RDs can also use this Diverticulosis / Diverticulitis Patient Education Handout during Telehealth appointments by giving the patient a digitized copy during their online appointment.
RDNs / RDs can also use this handout to conduct a "Food Recall". The RDN/RD can ask the patient if they have been eating foods in the "Foods to Eat" and "Foods to Limit" sections of the Patient Education Sheet; this helps the RDN / RD perform a structured "Food Recall" that is associated with foods of high importance to track the intake of for patients experiencing Diverticulosis / Diverticulitis.
As of June 2026; You will now have access to Print / Download the English Version of this Patient Education Sheet with The Dietetic Wellness Project's Green Data Table
that you can see in the Spanish Version. A Green Data Table has been Created for the 501c(3) Nonprofit's Zazzle Charity Merchandise Store. Both the Green Data Tables in English / Spanish with the Supplemental Information on the Handouts will be available for purchase on a 24x36 Foam Board ( Frontside English / Backside Spanish ). As Executive Director of The Dietetic Wellness Project, I have created my own data tables to be used on the Nonprofit Corporation's Zazzle Clinical Diverticulosis / Diverticulitis Nutrition Education Artwork that can be used as Educational Visual Aids in Clinics, Hospitals, & Private Practice locations. The Clinical Diverticulosis / Diverticulitis Green Data Tables will also be available on two 18x28 Glossy Posters in English / Spanish that can be placed on the walls of Healthcare Facilities. The benefit of the Foam Board is that it is a larger size, it can be used as a Clinical Display or as an Educational Tool, & Both the English / Spanish Green Data Tables are Included in a Single Purchase. This Product will be released during the Launch of the Zazzle Merchandise Store in Fall 2026.
Whether Inpatient, Outpatient, Private Practice, or Telehealth, this Patient Education Handout is a useful tool that is ready to be integrated into multiple different Dietetic / Nutrition programs.
